Permanent Fund Dividend Brings Big Sales

ANCHORAGE - "Hey folks, welcome to Best Buy," said manager, Rich Coco.  "How can we help you?" 

For Coco and his staff at Best Buy on Dimond Boulevard, Thursday was a very busy day thanks to the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend.   

"We have some really good deals right behind you," said Coco as he motioned to items on a shelf.  

Stores like Best Buy are offering incentives to try to cash in on the $878 that hundreds of thousands of Alaskans now have in their bank accounts.

Others took there money to a more practical place and decided to stock their home for the winter.

"Our goal was to really take your money on an everyday basis but especially when you get that PFD lump sum and make it go further, so you really get your value for your dollar," said Elizabeth Taylor, manager at Sam's Club in Anchorage.

At Sam's, the PFD specials are across the board. "We have a beautiful dining room set for $75 off," said Taylor.

The sales stretch further than just high tech gadgets and furniture. Car dealerships across Anchorage are trying to intice some Alaskans to use use their PFD to splurge on a new vehicle. One dealership expanded it's inventory in preparation for this weekend.
