A northwest Alaska woman died after she was struck by a pickup.

Alaska State Troopers say 85-year-old Ruth Sandvik died in her village of Kiana.

Troopers in Kotzebue took a call on the incident just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say Sandvik was struck as the truck backed up. She was taken to the Kiana medical clinic and pronounced dead.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Troopers say alcohol is not a factor in the incident.

Kiana is a community of 400 on the Kobuk River 57 miles east of Kotzebue.
