Police say Bukurim Miftari, 21 shot a woman in the head, who was trying to end a relationship with him, and left her for dead in a midtown ditch off of International Airport Rd. Monday night.
He's charged with attempted murder, assault, kidnapping and tampering with evidence. The victim, Kristen Reid, remains in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon. Doctors believe she may not survive and still has a bullet lodged in her neck.
Police are releasing more details of what led up to the shooting. Sunday night (9/16) Reid went to a nightclub and saw Reid at some point during the night. She left the club at 2:00 a.m. and later Miftari found her at an apartment, brandished a gun, and forced her to come with him.
Police are not releasing what happened immediately afterward, only to say police were dispatched to the scene just before 6 a.m. to find a blue Chevy Tahoe parked in the middle of Fairbanks Street off of International Rd. Reports say the SUV was covered in blood and police found Reid partially clothed lying in the ditch suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was immediately transported to the hospital where she remains, fighting for her life.
During the investigation, detectives found some of the victim's clothing and a handgun as well as the keys to the Tahoe in nearby bushes.
Miftari ran from police Monday night after police attempted to locate and question him in a south Anchorage neighborhood off Old Seward Highway and Grange. High winds hampered the search efforts of canines and police.
Miftari made contact with police through his attorney and was booked into the Anchorage Jail just before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. Miftari was arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
