JUNEAU- A Republican National Committee spokesman says the group plans to make an unprecedented investment in Alaska during the next election cycle.

Ryan Mahoney says RNC plans to have a state director and additional staff in Alaska by year's end. He says RNC's focus will be on getting-out-the-vote efforts.
Alaska is among the states where RNC is posting field staff ahead of the 2014 elections.
Republicans have seen Alaska as key to their efforts to reclaim control of the U.S. Senate as Democrat Mark Begich faces re-election.
State Democratic party spokesman Zack Fields says Alaskans aren't going to have a good reaction to national Republicans trying to "airlift operatives" into the state. He also sees RNC's announcement as an indication of the state GOP's "weakness."
