Report Shows Toxic Nap Mats found in Anchorage Day Care

ANCHORAGE- A national study finds that nap mats often found in day cares contain toxic flame retardants and some may carry chemicals that cause cancer.

Alaska Community Action on Toxics and the Center for Environmental Health commissioned independent testing of 24 nap mats collected from 7 states including Alaska.

Officials say Duke University found ten different chemicals and 19 of the tested mats contained more than one harmful flame retardant chemical.

AK Action says they want to pressure manufactures to use safer alternative materials.
