Soldiers Conduct Demolition Training at JBER
U.S. Army Alaska officials say soldiers are conducting demolition training this week at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.
ANCHORAGE- U.S. Army Alaska officials say soldiers are conducting demolition training this week at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.
Soldiers from the 23rd Engineer Company - part of the 2nd Engineer Brigade - are participating in the training that began Tuesday and continues through Thursday.
Officials say the goal of the training is to improve the Geronimo Drop Zone so it can be used year-round.
Participants will use 40-pound demolition charges to remove obstacles including large rocks. Officials say that will make the mountain drop zone safer for use in warmer months, when there isn't a deep snow layer.
Officials say that during the training, area residents may notice loud booms coming from Arctic Valley.
