SOLDOTNA, Alaska (AP) - City recreation officials in Soldotna are continuing a tradition started last year by clearing Arc Lake for skating.
Parks and rec director Andrew Carmichael says  that it's all about the atmosphere.
He says for people who want to take their family out skating, there's a fire pit and a picnic table at the lake. He says there's plenty of light, either from a full moon or people signing lights from their vehicles on the lake.
He says they don't resurface the lake. But once or twice a week, they city will try to clear the lake of new snow as much as possible.
Skating also was planned out Soldotna Creek Park this year, but he says the weather didn't cooperate. The city will try again there next year.
