Special program gives early educators a wage boost

ANCHORAGE - A group of early educators in north Anchorage got a financial boost Wednesday.

A bonus for a field that historically has some of the lowest pay in Alaska.

Professionals say it’s a silver lining in the war of wages.  

Currently there are 80 teacher enrolled in the Seed Roots program sponsored by Thread; an early care and education organization that is divvying up a grant for more than 113,000 dollars in wage bonuses.

The three year pilot program will raise the wages of local early educators by 740,000 dollars.

The average wage is $10.82 an hour.
