JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Republican party is taking a jab at a Democratic state senator for missing Monday's floor session.
The party, in a tweet, said Sen. Bill Wielechowski was "busy seeking attention instead of working for his constituents."
Wielechowski was in Anchorage for an Anchorage Chamber of Commerce event dubbed the "Great Oil Tax Debate." The debate on the pros and the cons of Alaska's oil tax structure featured Wielechowski and Andrew Halcro, who is the chamber president and a former state House member.
Wielechowski has been one of the most vocal supporters of Alaska's current oil tax structure and a critic of Gov. Sean Parnell's plans to overhaul the system.
On Monday, the Senate passed a bill that would extend the termination date of the Statewide Suicide Prevention Council.

Senator W was out making a reasoned argument for his version of oil taxes in front of the Anc Chamber of Commerce. This is a matter of critical importance, and the Governor should be doing the same thing. Not everything of importance happens on the Senate floor. Perhaps the State GOP would like to mention the lopsided number of R's that did NOT show in front of constituents on Saturday at the Anchorage Caucus meeting? Perhaps not.

Ak State Sen Wielechowski made a presentation in Anchorage, that included his constitiency. The Dem Sen from Anch reminded the Alaska business community that Gov. Parneell's intention for Alaska, at this time, is to defy Alaska's Constitution. To proceed with the Gov.'s plan will surely stop any action anywhere in Alaska. Do you really think the RWNJ and CBC are willing to give up with that. n
