Talkeetna Under Advisory Evacuation

by Your Alaska Link News Team

The town of Talkeetna is under an Advisory Evacuation.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough officials issued the evacuation just before noon today.

The Talkeetna River is rising and residents can expect to see a surge in river levels within the next hour, according to the Matanuska Susitna Emergency Management Office.

All students at the elementary school have been moved to Su Valley High School.

Overnight, two dikes broke on the river leading to an increase in flooding. A third river dike broke in the later morning hours.

Additional shelters will open as needed. Anyone looking for a Red Cross shelter can go to the Sunshine Senior Center for a shelter assignment. The Sunshine Senior Center has room for 20 people.
