The Battle Against Hunger In Alaska ContinuesHunger Action Month Under Way.It's estimated that over 100,000 Alaskans worry about findng food everyday. September is "Hunger Action Month." Over 300 food pantries are working to serve Alaska's hungry, more than 80 in Anchorage.
One Food Bank partner is currently giving out 12,000 pounds of food a month plus another 2,000 pounds of produce. A recent hunger study of Anchorage brought out some sobering statistics. 35% of the of households that seek assistance with feeding their family have children under the age of eighteen. 75% had incomes below the federal poverty level during the previous month. 45% report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel and nineteen percent reporting they are homeless. The Uited Way "Day of Caring" is the Food Banks biggest food drive of the year. Saturday, September 14th in the Sears Mall parking lot from 10am until 6pm. For more connect with us.
