Troopers: Village Public Safety Officer Killed

ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers say a village public safety officer was killed in rural Alaska Tuesday.

Troopers in Dillingham received a report of shots being fired at 4 p.m. in the community of Manokotak.

When troopers arrived they found officer Thomas Madole, 54, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to officials Leroy Dick Jr., 42, was taken into custody and is being charged with first-degree murder.

Officer Madole was 1 of 2 village public safety officers based in Manokotak and has been assigned since August 2011.
