JUNEAU- The U.S. Forest Service is looking for 15 Alaskans to step up and help guide the future of the Tongass National Forest.

The advisory committee will provide recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture on developing a sustainable forest management strategy for the forest.

A diverse group of stakeholders is sought for the group and will operate in a way that is open and accessible to the public.

Advice from the committee may also help in modification of the Tongass land management plan.

"You know, we want folks who have experience working successfully as part of a collaborative type of group. Certainly knowledge of the economic and social and ecological issues around Southeast Alaska would be helpful."
