Update of Regional English Dictionary Goes Online

MADISON, WI- Add the updating of a regional dictionary to the list of things that used to be done in person - and now is being done online.
Back in the day, the University of Wisconsin would send students and researchers off in "word wagons" to find out how Americans spoke in different parts of the country. Now the research is being done online - instead of trolling around in vans to study language.
The dictionary has more than 60,000 entries and shows how various areas use different words to describe things common to us all. For example, the children's game in which you skip about on a numbered grid is called hopscotch in most places. But in Manhattan, kids call it "potsy" - and in Chicago it's known as "sky blue."
