ANCHORAGE- An Anchorage property manager wants to upgrade a midtown apartment complex into a much larger development.

Weidner Apartment Homes has owned the 54-unit complex near East Tudor Road and Old Seward Highway since 1988.
Weidner is now proposing to add about 250 units and bring the building's height to five stories.
Under the redevelopment proposal, Weidner also would mix in smaller commercial space with residential.
The plan has not yet been presented to the city or the Midtown Community Council. Council president Chris Bond says, however, that he's in favor of "any positive development for Midtown."
The project comes at a time of growing concern about an Anchorage housing shortage.
Weidner spokesman Gregory Cerbana says current residents would be relocated during the project.
