Winter Temps Causing Overflow Shelter Concerns

ANCHORAGE - One of the cities largest emergency shelters has already reached their capacity a number of nights this winter.

Officials with the Brother Francis Shelter took in 237 adults Christmas night, nearly 90 more beds than their main space can hold.

Due to low temperatures Officials say the shelter has already activated thier overflow space at Beans Cafe Multiple nights.

However; Catholic Social Services says even with the overflow they are still seeing a drop in numbers.

Brother Francis recently implemented a free pass system, individuals who are passed their 30 day mark can extend their stay by scheduling a case management meeting.
