Youth Hunting SB77

by Gretchen Parsons

JUNEAU- On Wednesday Senate members considered SB77.

The bill encourages more youth to hunt in Alaska.

The Senator who sponsors the bill says it would teach young people proper hunting etiquette and open hunting season before school starts in the fall.
"Alaska has a long hunting tradition since before statehood and we're seeing less and less young people being interested.  Continuing that culture and heritage is a really good way to get young people out in the field and let them know proper instruction, gun safety and learn how to continue that heritage," says Senator Peter Michicce.
The Senator drafted this bill after his 18-year-old daughter went on a youth hunt two years ago.
The bill will move to the Senate Finance Committee for discussion.
