Sixteen positive COVID-19 cases at the McLaughlin Youth Center were confirmed by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services August 27. A staff member who tested positive after displaying systems triggered testing the entire unit.
Twelve of the 16 youth and four staff members in the treatment unit tested positive. The unit is now medical isolation in a separate cottage, according to a press release. The staff who tested positive are self-isolating at home.
In April, McLaughlin had one staff member test postive, followed by and one youth in June. An asymptomatic youth tested positive during their admission process in August according to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
McLaughlin will continue serial testing all youth and staff at the facility until the entire facility has two weeks of negative tests, according to the press release.
