Assembly Talks Budget

by Gretchen Parsons

ANCHORAGE, AK- Assembly members spent about two hours of the beginning of their meeting talking about whether or not to give money to the School Resource Officers and a special program called The Middle School Model.

The program essentially helps students who need more attention during classroom hours.
If the assembly does not vote to allocate money to the program then The Middle School Model will no longer exist.
During the two hours, dozens testified in hopes of having this money pushed through for these school needs.
"Middle school is such a crazy time for students. They are going from one teacher to seven different teachers. They really need that kind of safety net to catch them, the middle school model has gone kind of quietly not many people understand that is it gone right now," says Brinna Wojtalewicz, Special Education Teacher.
The measure passed unanimously.
Other topics of discussion in assembly tonight were parks and recreation, finance, tax collection fees, and public works.
