Bill Walker Announces Run For Governor

ANCHORAGE- Bill Walker is making another run for governor.

The attorney, perhaps best known for his advocacy of an all-Alaska natural gas pipeline, announced his intentions on Thursday.

"I would only run if I had too and I don’t have a political issue or bucket list to some sort where I’m trying to launch a political career or stay in politics---none of that, I don’t like the direction we’re going that we’ve gone. It does concern me and I think that if we don’t have a change, a significant change, I’m not happy with where we’re headed," said Walker on the Anchorage Rock Station KWHL's morning radio show, "Bob and Mark."

Walker says he will run for the Republican nomination for governor next year. He says the state needs a strong, aggressive leader with a track record of putting Alaskans' needs first.

"We don’t have a clear leadership, we don’t have a clear direction of the path forward. We need that, we need that for our children, for our grandchildren. We need that to save Alaska so I couldn’t feel more committed to a decision then I am right now, because I hate what I know . I hate what I see out there and I hate to see what we’re doing to ourselves," said Walker at the official press conference inside his home.

Walker, a former mayor of Valdez, made an unsuccessful run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2010, in a field that included Gov. Sean Parnell.

Walker currently hosts the weekly political talk-show, "On-Point with Bill Walker" on ABC affiliates statewide.
