ANCHORAGE- A Matanuska-Susitna Borough committee is preparing to recommend new regulations for oversight of cellphone towers and other tall towers.

The five-member Tall Towers Advisory Committee is considering draft language that would require a company to notify property owners within 600 feet of a new tower.
Borough development services manager Alex Strawn says the company could build the tower 30 days after a notification meeting.
The draft would repeal an existing requirement for a conditional use permit requirement and a borough obligation to weigh public comment in granting the permit.
Committee member Rick Brenden says the measure should include setbacks to protect residents. He says he supports setbacks equal to the tower's height.
A 200-foot communications tower fell last month near Willow.
