JUNEAU- The Alaska Redistricting Board plans to meet this week to discuss a work schedule.

Superior Court Judge Michael McConahy last week called on the board to immediately begin redrawing the state's political map. Board Chairman John Torgerson had said the board wanted to wait for a U.S. Supreme Court decision on provisions of the federal Voting Rights Act before moving forward. But McConahy said it was unnecessary to wait.

The board plans to meet Friday.

The Alaska Supreme Court allowed an interim plan to be used for last year's elections but ordered the plan be redrawn for the 2014 elections.

Meanwhile, Democratic state lawmakers Hollis French and Les Gara said the board and parties in the case should ask the court to appoint experts, or masters, to redraw the plan.
