JUNEAU- A Palmer math teacher has made his plans to run for lieutenant governor official.
Democrat Bob Williams says he filed with the Division of Elections on Tuesday.
Williams is seeking to succeed Republican Mead Treadwell, who has announced plans to run for U.S. Senate next year. Republican state Sen. Lesil McGuire of Anchorage and Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan have also announced plans to run for lieutenant governor.
Williams, in a statement, says Alaska needs a new direction. He says there needs to be greater support of public education.
He has upcoming campaign stops planned for Juneau and Kenai this month and for Fairbanks in September.
