Anchorage, AK-- Firefighters from the Alaska Division of Forestry are working today to contain the 25 acre wildfire that broke out in East Anchorage yesterday.
The fire began just before 4:30 yesterday afternoon near the Campbell Tract. Right now the fire is 30 percent contained.
Yesterday, aircraft dropped water and retardant to help stop the spread of the fire and smokejumpers worked into the early morning hours looking for hotspots. Firefighters also worked to place hose line around the fire to extinguish any hotspots found.
The Anchorage Fire Department advises people to avoid Campbell Creek trail east of Lake Otis and Far North Bicentennial Park. Trails near Folker, Grumman and MLK Jr. also remain closed at this time.
There have been no reports of injuries and no structural damage at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
