by Megan Mazurek

The Iditarod is an exciting time for Alaskans as it brings out the true pioneer spirit for both urban and rural communities.
62 mushers began their journey in downtown Anchorage across Alaska's toughest terrain.
These teams endure winds of up to 60 mph in the state's arctic terrain, steep ridges and rickety slopes in Alaska's mountain range, all to be the first to reach the burled arch in Nome, Alaska.
