FAIRBANKS- Authorities say a Fairbanks man died when a small plane crashed after taking off from the south end of the Fairbanks International Airport.

Airport police and fire officials on Friday identified the man killed as 51-year-old Jon Tanner. Deputy Chief Dan Grimes reports that two other people on board the plane, Bruce Nahorney and an unnamed juvenile, were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Thursday after the plane took off from the airport.

The aircraft came to rest about 300 yards off the runway. It appeared to have crashed nose-first into a ditch separated from a frontage road by a fence.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
