Denali National Park looks to repair road after evacuation
DENALI PARK, AK -- High water and washed out sections of the Denali Park road left 103 guest and employees stranded in Kantishna.
Two of the park's helicopters ferried the stranded to buses staged at the Wonder Lake Ranger Station.
Another evacuated people by fixed-wing aircraft to airstrips near or at the east end of the park.
Denali National Park and preserve are coordinating on transporting food and supplies to the other side of the river.
Additionally, four mountaineers who had traversed Mt. McKinley were airlifted from the south side of McKinley River to the visitor center after successesfully to cross the river for a few days.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and road crews are working on repairing damaged sections of the park road for the next week.
