FAIRBANKS- The struggling Alaska Dog Mushers Association plans to have a full-race schedule.
The decision was reached at a meeting this week. Association president Mike McCowan said Friday the schedule remains the same as was approved in March.
That includes holding the Limited North American Championships on March 14-16 at Jeff Studdert Racegrounds and the Open North American Sled Dog Championships in downtown Fairbanks on March 21-23, as well as hosting the Arctic Winter Games at Jeff Studdert Racegrounds the week before.
However, a $12,000 grooming debt from last year looms. Other problems include a decrease in membership and a loss in revenue generated by its gaming permit for pull-tabs.
The association will close its Mushers Hall this winter to save money, removing a popular venue for meetings, receptions and mushing events in Fairbanks.
