FAIRBANKS - A popular trail near Fairbanks that was closed because of bears has reopened.

State park rangers late on Wednesday reopened Angel Rocks Trail in the Chena River State Recreation Area.

Multiple calls about grizzly bears within a mile of the trailhead prompted the closure Sunday.

Alaska State Parks Ranger Ian Thomas says they found a dead moose calf along the trail, and that's probably what attracted the bears.

The carcass was disposed of in the river, and no other signs of bears have been seen.
