ANCHORAGE, AK - State Representative Bill Thomas will pay for campaign violations made last October during election season.

Republican from Haines, Thomas has agreed to pay $4,060 in penalties and take a mandatory candidate training class for him and his wife.

The Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC) investigated a complaint from a well-known Anchorage blogger. She told APOC that a series of 'thank you' ads were in violation of Alaska's ban on corporate campaign contributions.

APOC says the illegal 'thank you' ads for Thomas were bought by Haines businesses, but put together by his deputy treasurer.

"If those businesses had acted on their own, acted without any contact with the campaign or with the candidate, they would have been fine. But it's the conversation that made it a coordinated act and brought it a foul of the Supreme Court decision," said APOC Executive Director Paul Dauphinais.

APOC delayed the resolution because all legislators have immunity while the legislature is in session.
