A big reason safety in Alaskan skies has improved is the training provided to pilots by the Medallion Foundation. A non profit organization founded in 2002 and dedicated to reducing aviation accidents by fostering a culture of safety by promoting high safety standards through research, education auditing and advocacy.
Dennis Ward is the executive director of the foundation and he told us about a one of a kind super cub simulation tailored directly for Alaskan pilots. Technology like the automatic dependent surveillance broadcast and over 100 FAA weather cameras are helping to make air travel across Alaska safer along with the work of the Medallion Foundation. This non profit foundation was formed in 2002 and provides free training for pilots using portable simulators across the state.
