FAIRBANKS- A settlement has been reached in a court battle over two wood boilers near a Fairbanks elementary school.
Defendants Andrew and Gloria Straughn have agreed to pay $12,000 and replace the wood boilers with an oil-fired boiler.
The state Department of Conservation filed a civil suit against the pair in January for refusing to shut down or remove the boilers.
The litigation was in response to complaints from Woodriver Elementary School, where workers and parents complained about the smoke.
