FAIRBANKS- State wildfire officials say travelers on the Parks Highway between Nenana and Fairbanks can expect continued delays because of smoke from a wildfire.

The Skinny's Road Fire, named for a nearby bar, is estimated to cover about 1,000 acres, or more than 1.5 square miles.

Fire officials say the fire started Tuesday and was human caused but they've not said how.

Smoke pouring from the fire caused transportation officials to close the highway Wednesday night. It reopened Thursday morning with pilot cars guiding vehicles through smoke.

Fire information officer Jim Schwarber reports that the continued need for pilot cars will be evaluated Friday morning.

The Parks Highway is the main road route between Fairbanks and Anchorage. Nenana is 60 road miles south of Fairbanks.
