FAIRBANKS- Wildfire officials say driving restrictions will remain in place for now along the Parks Highway north of Nenana because of the possibility that a wildfire may flare up.

Pilot cars have been escorting vehicles in a 10-mile stretch between Miles 322 and 332 from 6 a.m. to midnight on the primary road route between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Fire information officer Brian Ballou calls firefighting a "fragile situation" on the Skinny's Road Fire, named for a nearby bar,

He reports that trees and brush are extremely dry and the fire has not burned everything on the acreage it covered.

The fire began Tuesday and is listed at 1,422 acres. More than 250 people worked on the fire Sunday.
