Victims Identified in Nunam Iqua Fatal Fire

A boy and two men were the victims of a house fire June 28 in a southwest Alaska village.

ANCHORAGE- A boy and two men were the victims of a house fire June 28 in a southwest Alaska village.
The fire in Nunam Iqua killed 8-year-old Cyprian Ignatius, 43-year-old Joseph Ignatius and 25-year-old Edward Murphy.
Two other people were taken to an Anchorage hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns.
They were among 14 people in the home when fire broke out at about 6 a.m.
Neighbors unsuccessfully tried to fight the fire with hoses and buckets.
The cause has not been determined.

Nunam Iqua is on a south fork of the Yukon River about 500 miles northwest of Anchorage. It has a population of 206.
