Kodiak, AK -- One Kodiak teen receives $10,000 from the Taco Bell Foundation’s Live Más Scholarship.
Rafael Bitanga is one of 531 students across the country to be chosen for the scholarship. He plans to use the award to pursue his passion of culinary arts and business.
As a Filipino immigrant and first-generation college student, Bitanga plans to attend Cornell University to combine his entrepreneurial, culinary arts and leadership skills to earn a degree in Hospitality Administration.
In a special encounter with former First Lady, Michelle Obama, she advised Bitanga to get an education because “it’s the one thing no one can take away from you.”
Bitanga hopes to use his education to demonstrate that food can used to develop leaders and support communities. He wants to be able to connect people around the table and on common issues.
After he earns his degree, he dreams of leading an innovative team to confront food insecurity.
