A Karluk Manor resident is found dead in his room. The death of Daniel Worthman, 46, is the second in the housing program which opened in December.
Police say that medics responded to the call around 10 p.m. Tuesday night and that Worthman was already dead when they arrived on scene.
Karluk Manor is for the chronically alcoholic and homeless. Officials say that most of its residents are very frail and have lived on the streets for a long time.
"Not unanticipated and certainly a more dignified death than dying in our streets nowadays," said Mayor Dan Sullivan. "Which is the purpose of the facility in the first place. So if there's a blessing in it, somebody passed away in a setting that's more humane than out in the elements."
Karluk Manor's program manager is waiting on an autopsy to find out whether or not alcohol played a role in Worthman's death.
