Anchorage School Board superintendent, Carol Comeau presented the preliminary school budget cuts proposed by Governor Sean Parnell.

The budget  for the 2012- 2013 year will cute $1.6 million from the previous school year.

If the cuts go through, the school board said that they will have to get rid of some of their most important programs.

Classes will be larger and summer school will have to be tossed out entirely.

The amount of elementary counselors, gifted education, and special education services will downsize.

Comeau said that she has no doubt that the cuts will do some major damage to the school system.

"There is no way we're going to be as successful with a lot of our students without some of the support programs that are in place," said Comeau. "It's a tragedy because I think we're seeing more kids connected to school.  I think this is going to help move us back unless we're able to acquire more funding."

Comeau is planning to do some negotiating at the state capitol in the next few weeks.
