GCI, KTUU Reach Temporary Agreement
Alaska's largest telecommunications system and a local NBC affiliate have reached a temporary agreement.
ANCHORAGE- Alaska's largest telecommunications system and a local NBC affiliate have reached a temporary agreement.
The deal, announced early Wednesday morning, allows GCI to continue to carry programming from Anchorage-based KTUU in rural markets until Nov. 8. The programming was to have ended Tuesday.
The areas affected include Barrow, Bethel, Cordova, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Kuparuk, Nome and two communities on the North Slope.
A GCI spokesman has said KTUU wanted more than $2 million to continue the current agreement, but there was a no money involved in the current negotiations. KTUU has proposed a no-cost alternate, but says GCI has an interest in removing KTUU from the rural markets.
GCI has purchased three television stations in Anchorage, Juneau and Sitka, and KTUU is among companies challenging the purchase
