Preparing for their upcoming deployment to Kuwait, soldiers from the 98Th Maintenance Company were recognized today in a ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf -Richardson.

The nine month assignment will find the soldiers providing vehicle maintenance, welding and repairing small arms, radios and generators. Their goal is getting equipment from Iraq mission ready for Afghanistan.

The 98th is a unit of the 17th Combat Sustainment Support battalion, 2nd Engineer Brigade. The unit has a history of service dating back to the first World War.

This group of soldiers returned to Alaska in May of 2010 after a year in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
