Anchorage, AK -- Jarel Paulk, 32, was arrested Sunday morning after firing shots at Anchorage Police officers during a traffic stop.
Officers witnessed Paulk’s Chevy Malibu drift across four southbound lanes before turning into a parking lot on Gambell Street.
A computer check revealed that Paulk did not have insurance and his driver’s license was revoked. He was issued citations for both violations and was advised that his vehicle would be impounded. A female passenger was also in the vehicle.
As the two began to walk away, police heard shots fired from their direction. Two shots were fired towards the officers and a tree was hit near where the officers were standing. There were no injuries.
Paulk and the female passenger left the scene and police conducted a K9 track.
Sunday evening officers received information that the two were in the Mountain View area and they were later found on the 300 block on North Bunn Street.
Paulk was taken into custody and the weapon was found underneath a car nearby. The female passenger was also taken into custody but was not charged.
Paulk was taken to the Anchorage Jail on two counts of Assault in the 3rd degree, Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the 2nd degree, Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the 3rd degree- Felon in Possession and Resisting Arrest.
