Veteran musher Peter Kaiser crossed the finish line in Nome at 3:39 AM Wednesday winning his first Iditarod.

Kaiser had eight dogs in harness when he crossed the finish line in 9 days, 12 hours, 39 minutes and 6 seconds. He is the first musher of Yup’ik descent to win an Iditarod championship. Kaiser has run every Iditarod since 2010, finishing in the top ten five times and in the top five three times.

Coming in just twelve minutes behind Kaiser was Joar Liefseth Ulsom. Jessie Royer, Aliy Zirkel, and Travis Beals round out the top five. Completing the Top 10 and splitting the majority of the purse is Matt Hall, Paige Drobny, Ramey Smyth, Mitch Seavey, and coming in just after midnight this morning, Aaron Burmeister.
