Long Range Plan for Valley Transportation Begins

Public input welcome

by Mike Ford

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is starting the update to its long range transportation plan. The long range transportation plan will guide future transportation improvements over the next 20 years.

Officials look to promote a multi-modal transportation network to improve access and mobility for those living in and traveling within the borough.

The Borough is asking for residents to contribute to the transportation planning process and help shape future transportation improvements and they are looking for out of the box thinking.

According to Borough spokesperson Patty Sullivan they are already getting some great ideas."Folks are asking for a commuter train, LED street lights, it can run the gambit of interests from bike trails to commuter traffic as well as corridors"

The last update was in 2007 and helped to identify much needed improvements to Trunk Road and the Seward Meridian Park-way.
