ANCHORAGE- Chugach State Park authorities have closed three miles of Crow Pass Trail in response to grizzly bear encounters with hikers.

Park superintendent Tom Harrison says a hiker over the weekend was approached by a bear and other hikers reported a brown bear on a carcass. Both incidents were about seven miles from the north trail head.

The trail covers more than 20 miles between Girdwood and the Eagle River Nature Center.

The closure begins 5.5 miles from the Eagle River side at Icy Creek and covers the next three miles to Twin Falls.

He says the closure will be reassessed in a few days.
