(ANCHORAGE, AK) - The Anchorage Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a Begich Middle School employee that occurred sometime over night in West Anchorage.

The Anchorage School District confirmed that an employee was the victim in what the police are calling a suspicious death investigation.

Police responded to a report of a deceased woman lying in the parking lot of the Anchorage Unitarian Universalist Fellowship down Turnagain Street from Northern Lights Boulevard this morning.

Two passerbys spotted the woman and called police just after 8 a.m.

The Anchorage School District said the woman was an employee at Begich Middle School, but have not commented further, and APD has not confirmed the identity nor her age or the cause of her death.

"They are not releasing anything about the reason why they believe it is a homicide at this point. They'll leave it to the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death," said APD Spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker.

APD described the woman as light-skinned, with auburn hair, and wearing a brown shirt and black pants.

"It does not sound to me, based on the information I've been given, like it's one of the people who attend here. However, I wouldn't say that that can completely be ruled out," said Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Vice President TK Kleiner.

Police and the school district will provide additional details as they become available.
