ANCHORAGE- The FBI says serious crime is up in seven of the eight categories it tracks in Anchorage.
The federal law enforcement agency says 2012 saw increases in murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, vehicle theft and larceny.
The FBI used information compiled by the Anchorage Police Department.
Deputy Police Chief Steve Hebbe says that the numbers have gotten the attention of the department and may indicate of the start of a trend.
A spokeswoman for Mayor Dan Sullivan, however, says one higher crime year doesn't indicate a four-year trend. Lindsey White says crime numbers over the course of the Sullivan administration have been lower and fewer crimes were reported in 2011 than 30 years ago.
