FAIRBANKS- Shoppers in northeast Fairbanks will have a new traffic pattern on their drive in Monday.

A $5.2 million traffic corridor that includes two new roundabouts, a new road, a new traffic light, and a new railroad crossing is designed to relieve congestion near big box stores west of the Steese Highway.

Among them are Walmart, Lowe's, Barnes and Noble and Sportsman's Warehouse.

Mayor Jerry Cleworth says the entry into the shopping complex has been challenging for years.

He says the number of private landowners involved in the road project added to its complexity.
