FAIRBANKS- Wildfire officials say no structures had been burned as of late Sunday night by a fire threatening homes east of Fairbanks.

Flames from the Stuart Creek 2 Fire threatened to jump the Chena River and reach structures along Chena Hot Springs Road.

The road runs for 55 miles roughly parallel to the Chena River.

Residents from Mile 18 to Mile 34 were asked to evacuate early Sunday afternoon.

The 40,000-acre fire was ignited by military artillery in late June

The fire at mid-afternoon Sunday reached the south bank of the Chena River near Mile 28 of the road.

Embers ignited trees on the north bank and burned about 400 square feet. Firefighters extinguished the flames.
