An early Saturday morning shooting in East Anchorage left one man dead, with another man arriving at a local hospital near the same time.

Police identified 38-year-old Kirt Kaanoi as the man killed by gunfire early Saturday  morning. Police have made no comment as to whether or not the man who arrived at local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds is related to the shooting in the Russian Jack area.

Officers initially responded to the call at 1:45am to the 4400 block of San Roberto Avenue. Witnesses say two men ran from the apartment, and Kaanoi walked out and toppled over. Medics rushed Kaanoi to the hospital, but died a little over 30 minutes later.

Police said 19-year-old Samuel Davis showed up at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds soon after the shooting on San Roberto Avenue. Davis remains in critical but stable condition, police said.

The investigation is still underway, and the police are asking the public for assistance.

"People sometimes fear retaliation, and if they don't want to talk to police directly, they are always encouraged to use the CrimeStoppers line. That's a telephone hotline. You remain anonymous. CrimeStoppers just wants your information, not your identity," said APD Spokesperson Anita Shell.

The public is asked to call police or Anchorage Crime Stoppers with more information regarding the shooting.
