Alaska State Troopers have released the name of a trooper involved in a shooting near Cooper Landing.

Trooper Kevin Gill is based in Soldotna. He has been a trooper since August 2013.

Troopers say 30-year-old Timothy Lange was arrested after firing a gun at Gill, who returned fire. No one was injured in the incident Sunday near mile 55 of the Sterling Highway.

Troopers say Lange was seen standing along the highway with a gun. According to troopers, Gill tried to make contact with Lange, who was arrested after firing at the trooper.

Lange is charged with counts including attempted murder. He is represented by the Kenai office of the Public Defender Agency, which did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.

Troopers say the shooting is under investigation.
